Presenter: Susan Richardson (NBCT) fell in love with languages during her undergraduate studies at Carthage College in Kenosha. After living and teaching ESL/EFL in Germany for 8 years, she received her MA in German Language and Linguistics from UW Milwaukee while teaching at the UWM-School of Continuing Education. Richardson employs language learning strategies while immersing her students in various cultures in her current third grade classroom at Milwaukee German Immersion School. Passionate about teaching the whole child, Richardson coordinates an Art Club and chairs her school’s transition to a green playground. Through her role as Wisconsin 2021 Teacher of Year, she promotes the cognitive and social benefits of language acquisition and its connection to cultural responsiveness. Richardson is currently pursuing her Doctorate in Education with an emphasis on teaching future educators.
