Machine learning, a subset of artificial intelligence (AI), is revolutionizing various industries with its applications. Just like understanding mathematical principles enhances the use of a calculator, grasping the basics of machine learning allows individuals to process and analyze information more effectively. For instance, in the realm of healthcare, facial recognition powered by machine learning aids in detecting genetic diseases. This one example shows how machine learning enhances human capabilities by automating tasks that require pattern recognition beyond human capacity. There are lots of examples in medicine and health:

  • analyzing complex medical data to assist in diagnosing diseases more accurately and efficiently than human processing alone

  • continuously analyze patient data to detect subtle changes or anomalies that could indicate potential health issues

Additional real-world examples in the news today demonstrate the practical applications of AI and machine learning across various sectors, as well as emphasizing some valid concerns. From predictive analytics in healthcare for early disease detection to enhancing user experiences on social media platforms like Twitter and Facebook through deep neural networks, AI is reshaping industries. This is not hyperbole, fear mongering or prediction.  It is happening today.  Additionally, companies like Google are leveraging deep learning for image recognition, language processing, and even autonomous vehicles, showcasing the diverse applications of AI in modern technology.
