Mentor Texts That Multitask: A Less-is-More Approach to Integrated Literacy Instruction (K-8)

Less is more! We don’t need a different mentor text for each different strategy we teach. By curating and using a small set of texts, we can feel prepared for almost infinite teaching opportunities. This session will provide explicit examples for how to use a “short stack” of layered, multimodal texts time and time again - for a range of purposes and with a range of students. Feel prepared to integrate reading, writing, word study, grammar, vocabulary, and speaking and listening. By grounding teaching in authentic texts, teachers are better prepared for efficient, flexible, and successful teaching and learning.
