Hot Issues in Special Education Law: 2020-2021

An Offering of the 2020-2021 TMI/LEGAL ONE School Law Series 

The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on special education legislation has been significant. State and federal law is rapidly evolving for students with disabilities. In this workshop, participants will also learn about the latest case law, statutory/regulatory changes, and federal/state guidance regarding:

  • the use of physical restraint and seclusion for students with disabilities;
  • the overlapping rights of students under IDEA, Section 504, New Jersey's Law Against Discrimination and the Anti-Bullying Bill of Rights;
  • major changes related to the use of technology to deliver services for students with disabilities;
  • new procedures for addressing legal disputes and due process; major case law decided in the aftermath of the Supreme Court decisions in Endrew and Fry; and
  • other important changes in case law, statute and regulation at the state and federal levels.

If you are unable to attend a program for which you have registered, email TMI Education at [email protected] or call seven (7) days prior to the program to request a refund. No refunds will be granted unless notification is provided within this time frame. TMI Education reserves the right to cancel events for any reason, including inclement weather and instructor illness. If TMI Education makes the decision to cancel a workshop, we will use the EMAIL contact information you have provided to us to inform you. In addition, we will post the announcement of cancellation on the respective TMI Education website workshop page. If TMI Education cancels, participants will be provided a choice of:

  • a full refund;
  • transfer to another, upcoming workshop date and location (space permitting); or
  • credit toward a future workshop. (Please note that all credits expire one (1) year from the date that they are issued.)
